BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS

Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“bigs”) and children (“littles”), ages 6 through 18, across Tulsa. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS (CIS Mid America)

Students whose academic, social service, and basic life needs are not met and often succumb to despair and frustration, even though they may be bright and fully capable of achieving in school. Communities in Schools of Mid-America focuses on the whole student to address the needs that are negatively affecting their success. We place a site coordinator in each partner school, and they work on whole-school programs to address school level goals, plus targeted services and case management services for students (pk-12th grades) exhibiting characteristics that could lead them to dropping out. Some services include providing them with clothing, food, hygiene products, tutoring, mentoring, mental health referrals, eyeglasses, our future now: finance program, report card conferences, among many others. All services are purposely identified and provided to meet the goal that has been set with the school and each student.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Seeking to put god’s love into action, Tulsa Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. They do not give away homes. Instead, we partner with hardworking families in our community to provide a path to homeownership. Through home sponsorships, individual donations, and volunteer work, we are able to build safe, quality, and beautiful homes and to offer affordable, no-to-low interest mortgages to families who complete our homeownership program. Habitat home-buyers invest in their home through "sweat equity":  working side-by-side with sponsors and volunteers on home builds, doing volunteer work, and completing an intensive series of courses including credit management, individualized debt counseling, money management, basic home repair, mortgages and lending process, escrow and taxes, and more.

KLIFE

Klife is a non-profit parachurch ministry focused on discipleship for youth. Through a variety of activities (Klubs, small group bible studies, monthly events etc.), Klife kids grow in their faith and have lots of fun in the process. MODUS

At Modus, we are changing the way that young people think about transportation to ensure that everyone can access the services and opportunities they need to succeed. Under our transportation service, modus matches youth (ages 13-24) who need transportation with passionate, volunteer drivers who then transport the youth clients to and from the services they need using their personal vehicles. We also have an educational program called ModusEd, which teaches local high school students how to use existing transit options, like Tulsa transit, so they can get to school and part-time jobs.

One Hope exists to love the people in our city well by standing for justice, staying present in relationships and communities long-term, and sharing the hope of the gospel in the context of the local church for the glory of Christ. READING PARTNERS

Our mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results. As a volunteer, you'll get matched with a student in k-3rd grade. For a minimum of one hour per week (M-TH; 8-2pm), you'll use our easy-to-follow, research-validated curriculum to help your student gain reading proficiency. We've got everything you need in the reading center; we just need you!
